Arita (hizen) Aka-e Porcelain Dish, C.1680–1700 — Thin White Body, 24.5 Cm
A refined Japanese porcelain dish from the first great Arita enamel phase. Painted in the aka-e palette of iron-red, green and yellow over a luminous thin white body, its composition is perfectly balanced: a small chrysanthemum rosette at centre, a red cloud band, and a scrolling leaf rim punctuated by red roundels. The knife-finished unglazed foot, with minute kiln grit, identifies its early Hizen origin.
Feather-light at 344 g and UV-negative, this dish exemplifies Japan’s late-17th-century synthesis of elegance and precision, bridging domestic artistry and global export. Its calm geometry and purity of glaze make it ideal for connoisseur interiors.
