Artist: Manufacture De Kashan, Perse (iran)
Shâhnâmeh by Ferdowsi - Haft Peykar by Nizami Ganjavi: The Arrow of Justice and the Milkmaid's Heart. In the middle of a herd of cows, he saw a simple and beautiful young girl busy milking the cows. Her beauty and grace deeply touched the king's heart. Bahrām decided to demonstrate his skill with the bow. Among the herd was a cow with a gold earring. He said, "If my arrow passes through this cow's earring without harming her, what will you say?" The girl smiled and replied, "If your arrow passes through, I praise your skill. But true skill lies in not wounding any human heart, and in acting with justice and wisdom." Bahrām drew his bow and released the arrow. It passed perfectly through the cow's earring, without the animal being injured or the earring falling off. The young girl was amazed by his precision, and her wise words touched the king's heart even more. A few days later, at a grand feast held to celebrate the hunt, all the nobles and courtiers were gathered in the palace hall. Suddenly, the same girl entered, dressed simply as a shepherdess, a bucket of milk in her hand. Everyone stared at her in astonishment, but she addressed Bahram fearlessly: "O king, once your arrow struck its mark perfectly; today, will your heart remain just and upright amidst wine, gold, and magnificence, without forgetting the common people?" Bahram, moved and delighted by her wisdom, ordered that she be honored and offered her royal gifts and sumptuous garments. From then on, in all festivals and celebrations, he kept in his heart the memory of the simple and wise people. This magnificent rug, having benefited from a deep cleaning and meticulous inspection by our experts at the Galerie Lissier's artisan workshop, is now ready to adorn your home!
