René De Pauw, 1887-1946. Belgian painter, watercolorist and draughtsman of genre scenes, flowers, nude portraits and fishermen. Illustrator of numerous books. He was a pupil of Florimond Van Acker at the Academy of Bruges. He settled in Brussels after the Great War but often stayed in Heist and Zeebrugge. At first his painting was clear and impressionistic. 1930 marked a turning point in his career, he now drew his inspiration from the world of fishermen, whom he depicted in an expressionist, dark and monumental style. He created murals for Bruges station and the Naval Academy in Antwerp. Retrospectives in Heist in 1956 and Bruges in 1960. Works acquired by the state and by the Museums of Antwerp and Bruges. Artist listed in the Bénézit, Arto and Piron. Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
