St Louis Crystal: Tobacco Jar Circa 1870
Artist: St Louis
Extremely rare tobacco jar in pressed molded lead crystal, from the St Louis crystal factory, circa 1870-1872. Listed in the collections of the Phalsbourg museum under the following reference: "Abb. 2005-3-15/004 (Ausschnitt) MB Saint Louis, um 1872, Planche ohne Nummer [Nr. 3], Molding, No. 3, Tobacco jar matte heads, 6 “"There is debate about the characters represented. Some evoke Napoleon III, Adolphe Thiers and the Empress Eugénie, while others prefer to see the musketeers. In any case, this early piece in the production of the St Louis crystal factory is extremely rare. The only model encountered outside the plate is in a private collection and does not have its lid. Our model is in absolutely impeccable condition: no chips, no crack, no breakage. Height: 20 cm
