This large Jerusalem mother-of-pearl medallion is a masterpiece of religious folk art from the first half of the 19th century. Hand-carved from a natural mother-of-pearl shell, this object served as a precious memento of a pilgrimage to the Holy Land—a tradition introduced and perpetuated by the Franciscan friars. This splendid decorative plaque made of natural mother-of-pearl with delicately iridescent hues displays exceptional artistic finesse, entirely crafted by the master artisans of Jerusalem.

Sacred Iconography of Great Rarity: The Resurrection of Christ

In the center of the oval medallion, the composition powerfully and in great detail depicts the mystery of the Resurrection of Christ

The Triumphant Christ: Standing and surrounded by a halo of glory, he rises above his open tomb, holding the banner of the Resurrection. With his right hand, he points to his radiant Sacred Heart.
The famous witnesses: To his left, a guardian angel stands in adoration, while to his right appears the face of a winged cherub emerging from the heavens.
Imperial ornamentation: The central medallion is framed by a rich, chiseled floral frieze and ends at the bottom with sumptuous openwork mother-of-pearl lace, revealing complex geometric patterns and a stylized cross at its center.

The upper part retains its original hanging ring, carved entirely from the solid shell, allowing this display piece to be hung immediately.

Note a very small chip at the bottom right of the medallion.
