The Chemist's Cabinet By Gustave Deflin 1897
Oil on canvas by Gustave Deflin, signed and dated 1897 lower left, depicting an intimate composition on an emerald green drape of objects and books specific to the chemist, in a soft light reflecting on the glass of the bottles and the copper of the microscope. This work is representative of the interest, even the fascination, for science in the 19th century. Work in very good condition, in a gilded wooden baguette frame with molding trimmed with linen canvas. Dimensions of the canvas 46x55 cm Total dimensions, with frame, 53x62 cm Gustave Deflin (sometimes spelled Duflin) is a painter from Lorraine born in 1875 in Épinal and died in 1950 in Montmorency. He was a student at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris and a professor of Decorative Art. He received a silver medal from the Vosges Emulation Society, which he held.
