"Silver Box - Empire Period - Holland - 19th Century "
Silver box by Hendrik Kuijlenburg, Schoonhoven – Empire period, circa 1830 Elegant rectangular box in solid silver finely chased with floral motifs and arabesques in the pure taste of the Empire period. Work of the silversmith Hendrik Kuijlenburg, active in Schoonhoven (Netherlands) at the beginning of the 19th century. Dutch silver hallmarks: Minerva's head (fineness 833/1000, Schoonhoven control) and master's mark HK The interior is lined with original red velvet, all resting on 4 ball feet Inside the lid is an inscription engraved in old Dutch: “CM Henny ontvangin den 11 augustus 1835” (probably a commemorative gift, given on this date). A very fine example of 19th century Dutch goldsmithing, combining finesse of execution and decorative sobriety typical of the Empire. Holland 19th century
