"Restoration Style Console, France, 1830"
Console table in the extravagant Restoration style. This piece of furniture is characterized by highly elaborate details and masterful craftsmanship. The rectangular base is framed by an oval molded frieze. The paired columns on the sides rise naturally from a wreath of lancet leaves. Their acanthus leaf capitals are decorated with scrolls carved with floral motifs. In contrast to the columns, a reduced central panel connects the side panels and the back wall. The wide frame supports the finely profiled top. The Restoration style, which began after the fall of Napoleon I with the restoration of the Bourbons in 1815, lasted until the resignation of King Charles X after the July Revolution of 1830. While French policy aimed to restore pre-revolutionary conditions with the Restoration, the antique-classical style of the Empire remained in art, while avoiding "Napoleonic" ornaments.
