Baroque Secretary Desk, Saxony, Mid-18th Century
An elegant Baroque secretary desk from Saxony, made in the mid-18th century. The lower section comprises a three-drawer commode with a curved apron and S-shaped feet. Above, the slant-front writing desk rests on sliding side supports. Inside, it reveals ten small drawers and a central tabernacle-shaped compartment. The upper section, with two doors and mirrors, is crowned by an intricately shaped broken pediment. The gilt-bronze hardware is designed in an asymmetrical Rococo style, adding a refined touch. The secretary is veneered in walnut with delicate rope inlays and has been meticulously restored and hand-polished.
