This sculpture is a bronze work titled Tyrtaeus, Poet of Sparta, created by the artist Claudius Marioton. The work represents the ancient Greek poet Tyrtaeus (Tyrtée in French), known for his elegies exhorting the Spartans to battle. Claudius Marioton (1844-1919) was a French sculptor, brother of the artist Jean-Alfred Marioton. The sculpture was presented at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1888. It is currently kept at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
