Biography
Paul Baeke was born in 1927, a painter/sculptor from Namur (Fernelmont).
Paul Baeke was attracted by living settings: trees, sky, clouds, plains, windy movements, landscapes with bright colors. But he was also a sculptor, inspired by the human figure and the female nude.
Paul never tired of working with cement or plaster to give shape to busts with expressive faces representing the mother, the child, the couple. He juggled with shapes and curves, played wonderfully well on compositions with finesse, releasing purity, tenderness, and simplicity.
This man of art had transformed his home into a studio — a living space and an almost permanent exhibition — as his gift was an intense part of his personality. He died in 2010.
A strength in technique like other Belgian sculptors such as Willy Anthoons, Jean Purvez, Willy Kreitz, Oscar Jespers, Oscar De Clerck, Auguste Mambour...
Paul Baeke is a sculptor evolving towards expressionism.
