French school of the 18th century: "Animation in an Italian park", red chalk drawing 22 X 37 cm, mounted in a Louis XVI period frame 39 X 55 cm (small accidents).
This charming drawing is very close to the style of Hubert Robert (1733-1808) who, during his stays in Italy, created numerous park scenes with architecture blending into landscapes, like here where gardeners are busy below a hill topped by a castle and a belvedere from which a waterfall gushes into a basin at the edge of which women are resting...
