Note that this is an oil on panel, which is a rarity in the work of the Hauterive watercolorist. Biography of the artist: Although originally from Normandy, Henri d'Hauterive is considered a Pyrenean painter. His parents met on holiday in Bagnères-de-Bigorre and married in Tarbes in 1864. He joined the army and was assigned to the Tarbes garrison, and in his spare time he hiked and climbed in the nearby mountains. He left the army in 1920 with the rank of colonel, and then decided to devote himself fully to his passion, painting. An early vocation could then fully reveal itself. Settled in Ossun, free with his time and without material worries, he traveled the region and devoted himself mainly to watercolor. Remarried to a woman from Arcachon, he moved to Lourdes in 1929 and became friends with the creators of the Pyrenees Museum, for whom he created models of Saint-Bertrand de Comminges. Known for his talents as a watercolorist, he illustrated various works dedicated to the Pyrenees. It was not until 1951 that he moved to Arcachon. Henri d'Hauterive regularly attended the Salon des Amis des Arts in Tarbes, first with Pyrenean subjects and then Arcachon subjects. A report of the salon states: "his watercolors are known for the healthy freshness of his colors." At the end of his life, he opened a shop in Arcachon where his watercolors were sold.
