Although completely unknown today, Boigegrain was nevertheless a talented painter, as evidenced by the quality of this still life. Little information is available about the artist, except that he exhibited interior scenes and still lifes at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants between 1902 and 1912. He was also an associate member of the Salon des Cent, which organized numerous exhibitions between 1894 and 1900. The artist seems to have been influenced by both the intimate decorative painting of Vuillard and Bonnard and by post-impressionist painting.
