Antique Damask Dinner Service, Embroidered With Marquis Crowns – Linen And Cotton Blend, 19th Century
Exceptional damask table service dating from the 19th century, consisting of a tablecloth (235 × 175 cm) and 12 matching napkins (82 × 70 cm). This ceremonial household linen is made of a very fine quality linen and cotton blend, with a dense, luminous and supple weave, typical of the great manufacturers of the Second Empire. The damask decoration alternates floral garlands, foliage and stylized bouquets, enhanced with heraldic embroidery of the marquis' crown, a rare symbol of French nobility. The tablecloth bears two embroidered crowns (7 × 4 cm) and each napkin has a finer one (2 × 4 cm), executed with remarkable fineness of stitch and perfect regularity. The set, washed and refreshed, is in very good condition: the tablecloth is impeccable, only two small traces of ink remain discreetly on one napkin. This linen comes from a trousseau of a titled house. An extremely rare ceremonial piece, combining elegance, prestige and 19th century textile heritage. Ideal for collectors of castle linen or lovers of heraldic textiles. ???? Dimensions – Tablecloth: 235 × 175 cm – Napkins: 82 × 70 cm – Embroidery: marquis crowns 7 × 4 cm and 2 × 4 cm ????
