"Important Maison Leleu Carpet / Art Deco Circa 1950. "
The famous Parisian workshop founded by Jules Leleu.

This magnificent rug was created during the lifetime of his daughter, born in 1906, which she inherited from the renowned French sculptor and designer Jules Leleu. She became responsible for rug design in her father's company after Ivan da Silva Bruhns left in 1936.

Her rug craftsmanship is generally associated with the Art Deco style. Paule Leleu built a reputation for creating magnificent Western European rugs. A richness of color and bold geometric patterns made her rugs the epitome of Art Deco.
Paule Leleu infused this style into her hand-knotted rugs, characterized by simple linear patterns and decorative motifs. In the 1940s, she began to use floral motifs.

LELEU editions are considered true works of art and are sought after by gallery owners, museums, and clients worldwide.

Paule Leleu (1906–1987) masterfully infused the Art Deco style into his hand-knotted rugs, characterized by elegant linear patterns and refined decorative elements. Throughout the 1940s, he expanded his design repertoire by adding eye-catching floral motifs. A notable aspect of his approach was his attention to the furnishings of the family business, ensuring that his rugs fit seamlessly into the overall aesthetic.
True to the trends of mid-century modern style, his later rugs often tended toward refined minimalism.

Jules Leleu (1883–1961) is a pioneering figure in the history of art and design, often considered the founding father of the Art Deco movement. Collaborating with luminaries such as Ivan Da Silva Bruhns, Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, and his daughter Paule Leleu, he played a crucial role in establishing Art Deco as one of the most influential design movements of the 20th century.

Leleu's entry into the world of design began when he inherited his father's painting business at the age of 26. Joining the company with his brother, they embarked on a creative adventure and eventually founded one of Paris's most renowned furniture workshops, Maison Leleu.
Dedicated to redefining furniture with a modern twist, their work shaped the aesthetics of the era. A highlight of Leleu's career took place at the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts, where his firm's interior designs won top honors, propelling him into the spotlight as a visionary designer embodying the spirit of the times.
