France, mid-19th century
Dimensions: height 58 cm, diameter 26 cm
An elegant pair of cassolettes crafted in warm-toned pink onyx, richly embellished with finely chiselled gilt bronze mounts. Each rests on a square base adorned with acanthus leaves and is topped with a fixed lid surmounted by a pomegranate finial. The shoulders feature charming seated putti holding a cluster of grapes above a garland of vine leaves and fruit encircling the body. The soft hue of the onyx harmonizes beautifully with the luminous gilded bronze, giving the pair a noble and balanced presence, characteristic of the refined Neoclassical taste of the mid-19th century.
