Wooden sculpture circa 1975, dimensions: 37 x 19 x height 21cmNissim Merkado was born in Sofia (Bulgaria) in 1935. In 1948 he moved to Israel where he completed his studies in mechanical technology. He took courses in Political Economy from 1954 to 1956 and went to the Tel Aviv School of Fine Arts, as a student in Sculpture and Painting (1957 to 1959). He arrived in France in 1962 and settled in Paris. He attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, where he taught in 1984 and formed a multidisciplinary workshop. Nissim Merkado has held numerous solo and group exhibitions, and designed experimental projects and works in urban public spaces both in France and abroad. In the multidirectional work of this artist, the thought about hidden nature, in the socio-urban environment and cosmic anthropology lead to projects and achievements from 1967. The concept promotes the continuous relationship between the individual, nature and primitive or advanced science on the scale of the context of the environment designed or chosen in this regard. The "A des Décibels" - sound corridor that connects eighteen virgin forests of the world (1974), the Bio-acoustic Garden (1978), the work "META" (1985-1992) are examples of his research.
