"Canton Fan Known As “with A Thousand Faces”, In Its Box, 19th Century China"
Rare 19th century fan known as "with a thousand faces". The double silk leaf densely painted with approximately 70 figures on each side, gathered on the terraces of palaces opening onto gardens. One side on a purple background, with a kite rising in the sky, and the other on a silver background around dancers and a rider. Very finely pierced ivory frame engraved with figures in bamboo gardens. The plumes carved in the thickness. Sold with its CITES certificate. Metal bail and silk tassel. It measures 10,82 inches long closed and 19,68 inches in diameter open. In its pretty lacquered wooden box, the interior painted with a bird and flowers. The set is in excellent condition.
