Japanese Walking Stick In Maki-e, Takamaki-e, And Shibayama Lacquer, Meiji Period
An exceptionalJapanese walking stick crafted from finely lacquered wood, showcasing the various traditional techniques of Maki-e and Shibayama.
It is decorated along its entire length with plants and birds inslight relief, crafted from gold, silver,brass, and various alloys. The upper section is also adorned with flowers, birds, and butterflies made of mother-of-pearl and other natural materials. Note the absence of eight small mother-of-pearl inlays, which does not detract from the overall harmony of the piece, which remains in excellent condition.
It measures 31,30 inches in length.
Dated to the Meiji period (1868–1912).
