"Louis II Maistre : Pair Of 18th Century French Solid Silver Candlesticks 1244g Nimes 1770"
Pair of 18th century French solid silver candlesticks from the rare Bureau de Nîmes resting on contoured model bases, shafts and ribbed sockets. Beautiful quality of the cast silver bases. Joined a pair of silver bobeches to the model probably original not hallmarked. Charge and Discharge hallmarks for NÎMES 1768-74 (letter date O), Jurande hallmark for NÎMES 1770 and Hallmarks of the Master Goldsmith Louis II MAISTRE received in 1759. Note the trace of an old recovery for one at the base / shaft junction. Pair of candlesticks from the very rare Bureau de Nîmes remarkably hallmarked in good general condition, complete with its bobeches, beautiful patina, micro-scratches of use. For the informed collector ...
There are very few shaped pieces from the Bureau de Nîmes, and therefore logically I have not found other pairs of candlesticks for this Bureau. The 1785 inventory of Louis II Maistre perfectly illustrates the pieces he made, mainly consisting of numerous spoons, forks, stew spoons, buckles, chains, and 1 dish and 5 coffee pots. Louis II Maistre's Nîmes cutlery from 1784-85 is in the Metropolitan Museum in New York (Ref 38.113.2). Height (with bobeches): 28 cm
Weight: 1244 grams
