18th Century Italian Genoese Chandelier Empire Giltwood Crystal Twelve Light
Extraordinary Genoese Chandelier circa 1780s with Twelve lights on two tiers, decorated with clear and blue crystals. Large Empire chandelier in Carved and Gilded Wood from the late 18th century, like the chandeliers in the Ducal Palace in Genoa. It consists of a central shaft made of turned wood, a support carved with plant motifs and gilded, and twelve curved arms hand-made of iron and decorated with period blue and transparent crystals. The twelve lights are on two tiers of height. It dates from the late 1700s and is in excellent condition, ready to hang.
This chandelier is made with a central shaft of carved wood, carved with plant motifs and gilded in fine gold; this central support, composed of several elements, is decorated with hand riveted iron elements, connected by a multitude of festoons of transparent crystals enriched with blue crystals, surmounted by crystal flowers with the corolla in embossed and gilded brass, a precious and original detail that, together with the lovely gilding, distinguishes and emphasizes the taste, the timeless elegance of this important salon chandelier, from the end of the 18th century.
The twelve arms of the lower wooden element, are made of curved gilded iron, terminating in gilded iron bobeiges, as the chandelier was originally lit by candles.It comes from a private family in northern Italy, and is in good condition, with minimal signs of wear compatible with its eighteenth-century date; it has been re-electrified according to European standards, by our antique chandelier restoration workshop, for 12 E14 bulbs.
It should be shipped packed and hung inside a big wooden case to be custom-built.
