"Pair Of Qing Mirror Paintings Late 19th Century"
Pair of fascinating inverted mirror paintings, exported from China. The paintings were created on glass using negative techniques and then finished with a mercury mirror base. The two paintings depict the portraits of the Emperor and Empress, with opposing gazes, depicted in rich and elaborate attire. The paintings are presented in their original wooden frames, richly carved and fretworked. The frames depict scenes of landscapes, figures, and plants, reminiscent of Chinese tradition and myth. These are curious objects, highly decorative and valuable, capable of furnishing any space with a touch of oriental antiquity. Chinese, Qing Dynasty, late 19th century.
