Object description :

"Portrait Of A Magistrate Early 18th Century, Capitoul De Toulouse Golden Frame"
Magnificent very large portrait of a man from the early 18th century, apparently representing a Capitoul of Toulouse. This is most likely the portrait of Gillbert (Nicolas) Alexandre de Beausson (1630-1693). Indeed, the coat of arms is: Gold with a gules chevron, accompanied by three sable cans (gold field, red chevron, three black cans) Crest: helmet in profile with red and gold lambrequin. This is the portrait of a mature man, long wig, magistrate's habit with white lace flap and red scarf. Oil on canvas without signature. Work similar to Hyacinthe Rigaud or Nicolas de Largillière.
This painting has been restored, the canvas has been re-stretched on a new stretcher with a key, the old stretcher has been preserved and screwed to the back for authenticity.
Some retouching of pictorial material and re-varnishing.
The period frame is in carved and gilded wood, it has accidents on the edges as well as some old consolidations.
Original gilding.
This is a large, highly decorative painting that impresses the viewer.
Early 18 th century.
