Object description :

"Portrait Of A Young Girl. Rembrandt School, 17th Century."
Oil on canvas Old frame in blackened wood, molded and guilloché Total dimensions: 84 x 74 cm. the frame alone: 62 x 51 cm Portrait of a blonde girl with pearls, her hairstyle echoes the gold embroidery of her garment, the lighting of which seems to come from above like a spotlight to powerfully illuminate her face. The painter depicted it in a feigned oval, against a dark background. *We know of a painting by Rembrandt representing a young woman showing great similarities with ours, but older. Painted in 1632 (private collection) In the United Provinces, Rembrandt's work influenced a large number of painters, starting with his pupils (about ten) who themselves inspired this artistic movement for several decades. The painter indeed encouraged his pupils to copy his works or to profit from the sale of their paintings, thus being remunerated in exchange for their education and their apprenticeship. Our painting is the work of a painter called "Rembranesque" who was able to capture with talent the expression of this young girl thanks to the use of light and darkness (chiaroscuro technique inspired by Caravaggio) and we are thinking of one of the master's pupils or a painter from his circle.
