"Saint-roch In Polychrome Wood. 18th Century Period"
Carved and polychrome wood Total height: 27 cm Our charming sculpture represents Saint Roch, the patron saint of pilgrims, surgeons, dermatologists and apothecaries. Saint Roch was born in Montpellier in 1350, into a wealthy family. Orphaned at the age of 17, he inherited a fortune that offered him a comfortable life. However, he chose to renounce these privileges to become a pilgrim. Determined to help the most deprived, he set out on the roads, distributing his goods to the poor and caring for the sick. His fame due to his actions will spread throughout the Christian world. This is the work of an 18th-century colonial image maker, more precisely from Salvador de Bahia in Brazil. Good condition.
