"The Judgment Of Paris – 17th Century Italian School (bologna)"
Oil on canvas Presented in a beautiful molded wooden frame, blackened interspersed with gold motifs (Salvatore Rosa model) Total dimensions: 81 x 100 cm. The frame: 65 x 80 cm The style and color palette point us to a Bolognese artist working in the 17th century, and we see the hand of a collaborator of Francesco Albani, known as the Albane (Bologna 1578-1660). The Albane painted a Judgement of Paris (around 1650) and currently exhibited at the Museo Nacional del Prado - Madrid, our painting is very close to this composition. The subject is charming, it is the Judgement of Paris: Three goddesses argued over who was the most beautiful: Hera, goddess of marriage, Athena, goddess of the hunt and Aphrodite, goddess of beauty. A golden apple would designate the most beautiful. Zeus was responsible for delivering the golden apple, but he preferred to entrust it to the innocent hand of a mortal. This mortal was named Paris, the son of Priam and Hecuba. Hera assured him that if he chose her, he would rule all of Asia. Athena promised him victory in all the battles he fought. Aphrodite, on the other hand, would offer him Helen, the most beautiful of women. He chose Aphrodite. The consequence of this choice was the abduction of Helen. Since she was already married, her husband wanted to win her back. This triggered the Trojan War. In addition, he angered the other two goddesses by choosing Aphrodite. Good condition. Sold with an expert certificate.
