Philibert Léon Couturier For Haviland Limoges, Atelier d'Auteuil Impressionist Vase With Rooster
Artist: Haviland Limoges, Atelier D'auteuil
Lovely glazed terracotta vase from the Atelier d'Auteuil for Haviland Limoges by Philibert - Léon COUTURIER (1823-1901). Very large bulb-shaped vase with a pot-bellied body rimmed at the top and bottom in gilded bronze. The impressionist decoration with the rooster on a green-brown background. No apparent signature of the decorator but totally recognizable work of the painter Philibert - Léon COUTURIER (1823-1901) nicknamed “the king of chicken coops”. Couturier was a famous animal painter, uncle of Jules Dupré, who worked at the Haviland workshop in Paris-Auteuil. Signature below Haviland & Cie. Very good condition, just two small chips on the heel under the bronze rim. Late 19th century period. Delivery 30 euros in France, 80 euros in the EU and 150 euros rest of the world.
