"Ancient Ko-omote Type Noh Theatre Mask"
This is a mask from the Noh Ko-omote theater. It represents a young woman who is gentle and graceful. Symbol of purity, youth and calm beauty. It was used in many plays in the Noh repertoire to embody heroines, princesses or benevolent female spirits. The color is a natural brown-red tint (sometimes slightly golden) made from crushed eggshells. Discreet smile, peaceful gaze, absence of hair. It is a handcrafted sculpture made by hand in cypress wood (hinoki). There are deep gouge marks inside, it is an ancient manufacturing technique. The remains of lacquer and gilding on the teeth are typical of this period. Height 20 cm, 14 cm wide and 9 cm deep. Sold with the base, height with the base 30 cm.
