White marble sculpture resting on a wooden base and representing a bust of a young woman with short hair cut “à la garçonne” and adorned with a drape falling from her shoulders.
Signed “H.GREBER” behind the young woman's left arm.
Henri Léon Greber (1855-1941) is a French sculptor from a family of ceramists from Beauvais. Trained by Antonin Mercié (1845-1916) at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he exhibited regularly at the Salon where he received numerous awards and was made a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1904. Several of his works are now held at the Musée d'Orsay and he also created a statue entitled “Industry” for the facade of the Grand Palais.
