Line Vautrin (1913-1997), "the Three Graces", Rectangular Powder Compact, 20th

Line Vautrin (1913-1997), "The three graces", rectangular powder compact, 20th century In gilded metal, with beveled interior mirror. Still has its original fabric which contained the powder, but no longer has its puff. Signed “Line Vautrin” on the reverse. Circa 1955. Very good condition Dimensions: 7.5 x 6.4 cm Line Vautrin is a French artist, designer, creator of jewelry and decorative objects. created her first objects in bronze when she was not yet 21 years old. The beginnings are difficult. Fiercely independent, she refuses to submit her inspiration to the request of a boss – even a great couturier. She will remain faithful to this desire for freedom throughout her life. It was thanks to the 1937 Universal Exhibition where she rented a stand that she became known. Its collection is diversifying: in addition to its famous bronze buttons, it presents necklaces, bracelets, earrings, belt buckles, bag clasps, without forgetting these fashion accessories which have now disappeared: comb covers, mules , footmuffs, buskins, fourragères, caps… The following year she opened her first boutique near the Champs-Élysées, and continued to create bronze pieces. A material to which she adds, according to her fantasy and inventiveness, enamel beads, felt, feathers and fur. At the beginning of the 1940s, she expanded her range by creating bronze boxes - compacts, ashtrays, pill boxes - which made her famous.
