Rare pair of torches made by Claude Galle in gilded bronze in the form of quivers with octagonal bases.
The twelve-sided rod body and the gadrooned socket.

Claude Galle delivered fourteen pairs of identical torches in 1806 for the Palace of Fontainebleau. According to the National Archives, the Memorandum of May 30, 1806 inventories them and places them in the Palace of Fontainebleau distributed as follows:
- Two pairs in the salon of the great dignitaries.
- Two pairs in the first salon of the Empress. - Two pairs in the state chamber of the Empress.
- One pair in the first salon of Madame Mère.
- Two pairs in the second salon of Madame Mère.
- Two pairs in the salon of apartment n° 8 bis.
- One pair in the bedroom of apartment n° 9. - One pair in that of apartment n° 12.
- One pair in the bedroom of the grand marshal.

Thirteen of these fourteen pairs of torches are still preserved today at Fontainebleau. Another pair of identical candlesticks delivered by Claude Galle on December 23, 1809 for the salon des princes of the Emperor's apartments at the Grand Trianon (inventory number GML 4347/001).

This pair of candlesticks is referenced in: "Pendules et bronzes d'ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire à Fontainebleau" by Jean Pierre Samoyault, number 186 page 198 (Photos).
