Carved Silver Cane Handle, China, Late 19th – Early 20th Century

Finely chiseled solid silver cane handle, decorated in high relief with sinuous dragons among the clouds and a large Chinese ideogram "寿" (shòu), symbol of happiness and longevity. The domed upper part is decorated with stylized flowers and encircled by a dragon in the round, forming a pommel as decorative as it is pleasant in the hand.
