"Pair Of Copper Disc Candlesticks, Holland (1700-1750)"
These beautiful candlesticks are an excellent example of Dutch craftsmanship from the first half of the 18th century. These pieces are made of brass and feature a distinctive silhouette with a baluster-shaped foot, a wide, round top, and a slightly flared base. The top tube has two striking perforations that served to facilitate the removal of candle residue. Disc candlesticks like this were frequently used in wealthy Dutch bourgeois families. The wide, reflective disc not only caught the wax but also reflected the candlelight.
The use of brass not only made the candlesticks durable but also gave them a decorative and luxurious appearance.
