Pair of candlesticks
Ormoulu Bronze, three elements
Dimensions: H. 27; D. 14 (cm).
Paris, circa 1780.
Pair of baluster-shaped torches resting on circular bases. Beautiful ornamentation including heart-shaped stripes on the lower part, matching those on the shaft; rows of pearls and water leaves at the top of the baluster. The handles have knurled friezes. Cast in two brazed half-shells, mercury gilding, mainly with gold leaf.
This model is of superior quality, with all the ornamentation chiseled by hand, giving the mats a delicate, “velvety” finish.
Condition report: normal wear and tear
