"Orientalist Painting Attributable To Prosper Marilhat 1811-1847"
This painting comes from a house in Auvergne, the region of origin of the painter born in Vertaizon in 1811 (died in Paris in 1847). This view of the Nile or the shores of the Mediterranean is characteristic of the painter's work. We find the same use of light at sunrise or sunset, accentuating contrasts and areas of shadow. The painter's style is also found in the choice of intense blues or slightly tinged with pink. Another sign is the very low horizon line just above the bridge which leads the gaze towards the distance. We can see two felucca sails which place the scene in the north of Africa.
