Biography
Harry-Arnold Elstrøm (1906 – 1993) was a Belgian Expressionist sculptor.
Born in Berlin to a Danish father and an English mother, he studied art and art history in Dresden and trained at the Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Meissen. He continued his studies at the English Academy in Rome and in Florence, also taking part in archaeological excavation campaigns in Pompeii.
In 1928, he moved to Brussels to study sculpture at the Academy with Paul Dubois, Victor Rousseau and Jacques Marin, receiving several awards for his work.
He was professor of sculpture at Saint-Luc (1940–1972), then professor of graphic and plastic arts at the Faculty of Applied Sciences (architecture) of the Catholic University of Louvain (1952).
Elstrøm exhibited widely, including at the Brussels Universal Exhibitions of 1935 and 1958. He was also the author of coins, stamps, ceramics, and monumental statues.
He died in Linkebeek in 1993.
