Watercolor on paper, 33 cm x 24 cm, preserved under glass and sold with its frame 43 cm x 35 cm, signed and dated lower right Lucien Mainssieux 1931 and located in Casablanca representing the seaside of the Moroccan capital animated by boats. Sold with Invoice-Certificate. Good condition a small fold in the sky. Lucien Mainssieux was born in Voiron on August 4, 1885 and began to exhibit in 1907 at the Salon des Indépendants, in 1908 at the Salon d'Automne, and in 1923 at the Salon des Tuileries. From 1921 to 1928, he was a member of the Salon d'Automne. Mainssieux was a landscape painter who immortalized his hometown Voiron and its surroundings at the turn of the 20th century. He was also a traveling painter who spent the last twelve years of his life between Paris, Voiron and Tipasa, with a final trip to Morocco in 1958. As an engraver, he notably illustrated "A Summer in the Sahara" by Eugène Fromentin. His works are held in several collections, notably at the Centre Pompidou. A museum dedicated to him has been located in Voiron since 1989.
