"Attributed To Francesco Guardi (1712-1793) – Pair Of Large Oils On Canvas"
Oil on canvas, 127.5 x 92 cm each. Presented in superb carved and gilded wood frames. An important pair of floral and animal compositions, attributed to Francesco Guardi, an 18th-century Venetian painter from a family of renowned artists. Francesco Guardi (1712-1793) is best known for his Venetian vedute and capricci, in which he displayed a vibrant and atmospheric style, and is considered one of the last great examples of 18th-century Venetian painting alongside Canaletto. But he also produced decorative and allegorical compositions, including scenes of flowers, animals, and still lifes, which are highly sought after by collectors. These two large canvases, with their refined and balanced execution, combine vibrant flowers, opulent fruit, and delicately perched birds in a setting of great Italian classicism. The elegance of the composition and the richness of the details recall the Venetian decorative spirit, where ornament and grace served both art and the splendor of aristocratic residences. Of beautiful dimensions and in excellent condition, these works are magnified by their sculpted and gilded frames.
