Small Empire Clock In Gilded Bronze Representing A Bacchante
A rare and delightful late 18th-early 19th century miniature clock in gilt bronze depicting a dancing bacchante, wearing a flowing gown and playing castanets. She carries a tambourine suspended from a thyrsus on her shoulder, in which the movement is housed. To accentuate the festive spirit, a ewer and a cup are placed at her feet on an oval base decorated with a bowl of fruit, vine leaves, and thyrsuses. It rests on four finely molded skate feet. The enameled dial marks the hours in Arabic numerals; the movement has a circular suspension. "La Pendule Française" P.Kjellberg p.403
