Important French Mantel Clock From The First Half Of The 19th Century (empire Period)
French table clock from the first half of the 1800s in the Empire style, made of mercury-gilded bronze. The central case, with its linear architectural form, houses the enameled dial with Roman numerals and is embellished with elegant decorations featuring musical motifs and classical symbols chiseled in relief. On the left side stands a male figure in ancient garb, likely a Greco-Roman singer or poet, depicted in the act of playing a stringed instrument. On the right side is a precious decorative lyre, a symbol of the arts and music.
