Beautiful pair of large engravings (52 x 37 cm each), signed lower margin: “Adr. Manglard fecit Romae 1753”.
Adrien Manglard, a Lyon-born painter and engraver established in Rome and pupil of Joseph Vernet, is renowned for his marine scenes and harbour views. His works display meticulous detail and dramatic staging of ships, ports and figures.
- First engraving: naval battle scene with burning ships, explosion and sailors struggling for survival.
- Second engraving: lively Mediterranean harbour view, with watchtower, merchant ships, cannons and dockside activity.
Dated and signed, these engravings are rare witnesses of 18th century maritime art. A decorative and historically valuable pair.
