Rare and interesting statue of the child Jesus sitting in majesty on silver clouds.
We do not often come across this representation of the child Jesus in clouds in apotheosis.
The child is graceful and the proportions are charming.
He really has the features of a little boy and if you look closely at
the photos he has sulphide eyes. The face is delightful and the arms slender.
He wears a loincloth painted with a very beautiful polychromy, moreover all the polychromy is original.
It has a metal ring in the right hand.
In the back are four holes with old pegs perhaps to cover him with a halo or a processional canopy, with the ring in the right hand and this system of pegs present in the back we can easily imagine that this child Jesus was also a statue that was taken out in procession and that could be dressed according to religious festivals.
He is sitting on silver clouds, themselves placed on a wooden base original gilt.
the set is superb and quite unusual. look carefully at the work of the silver clouds, the lace carved in the linden, as well as the baby Jesus. the gilded wooden base is made of fir.
we left the set in its original polychromy, so it has some small lacks of polychromy. and look again at the photos, some small pieces of finger are missing. if you wish we can restore in the workshop the small missing pieces and the missing polychromy but the set is very coherent and harmonious as is.
