A magnificent 18th-century Italian portrait. This oil on canvas artwork depicts a half-length portrait of a young girl holding a rooster in her arms, a symbol of vigilance and a harbinger of dawn. The young woman, with luminous skin and blond hair gathered in soft curls, gazes to the right with a thoughtful and delicate expression.
A painting of remarkable pictorial quality attributed to the Venetian painter Domenico Fedeli, known as Maggiotto (1712-1794). He trained in the workshop of Giovanni Battista Piazzetta, becoming one of his best students, and his works reflect the artistic expression of the great master. (The painting is not currently accompanied by an expert opinion, but one can be requested upon payment of the relevant additional costs.)
A rare artwork of great decorative and collectible appeal, it easily adapts to both classical and contemporary settings. A 19th-century gilded frame in finely carved and gilded wood, with some signs of age. The painting has already been restored with re-lining, replacement of the stretcher, and repainting in small areas. Overall, it is in good condition. Internal dimensions: H 55 x W 45.5 cm.
