17th Century Watercolored And Framed Map Of The Bishopric Of Luçon, Vendée
Rare and beautiful map circa 1679 of the bishopric of Luçon in Vendée, drawn up by Guillaume SANSON, son of Nicolas SANSON d'ABBEVILLE. It is decorated with three cartouches including a large title cartouche engraved by LIEBAUX, decorated with 2 cherubs holding the coat of arms of the dedicatee, Henri de BARILLON, bishop of Luçon from 1671 to 1699. The map which extends south to La Rochelle, also shows the north of the island of Ré, the island of Yeu and the islands of Noirmoutier and Bouin (and yes it was an island). Beautiful frame in pitch pine with fillets 76 cm x 62 cm
