Bibliography: Maison Cardeilhac (1804-1951) Founded in 1804 by Antoine-Vital Cardeilhac, Maison Cardeilhac quickly established itself as one of the most prestigious Parisian goldsmiths of the 19th century. Renowned for the quality of its carvings and its creations, both classical and innovative, it particularly excelled in the reinterpretation of the Louis XV and Rocaille styles, popular under the Second Empire and the Third Republic.
Under the successive leadership of his descendants, Cardeilhac participated in the great Universal Exhibitions of Paris (notably 1867, 1878, 1889 and 1900) where it obtained several medals and distinctions. It developed refined table services, prestigious pieces and exceptional silverware, often commissioned by an aristocratic and bourgeois clientele.
In 1951, the Cardeilhac house was acquired by Christofle, which perpetuates some of its models and preserves the heritage of its know-how. Today, pieces signed Cardeilhac are highly sought after for their elegance and quality of manufacture, illustrating the golden age of French silversmithing.
