Gebruder Heubach Snow Owl By Otto Pech, White Porcelain, C.1910
A substantial Thuringian porcelain figure of a snow
owl by Gebruder Heubach, designed c.1910 by Otto Pech. The bird stands on a
faceted rock plinth; cool white glaze with discreet underglaze accents to beak
and talons. Inner base with printed green sun over GH. The composition reduces
feather detail to mass and contour, privileging silhouette and “quiet power” —
an early Art-Deco animalier hallmark.
Heubach’s standing within the Thuringian school was secured by prizes and
export success; notably a Silver Medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition. Otto Pech,
a principal sculptor of the factory, shaped its modern animal repertoire — owls
foremost — and his models remain among the most sought-after Heubach works.
Large, fully glazed porcelain figures from Lichte appear far less often than
the firm’s bisque output, and collectors prize them for presence and finish.
Desirable author-model, rare large format (35 cm), immaculate state, and
a crisp, factory mark — a strong combination for advanced collections and
high-level interior display.
Condition:
Excellent, virtually as new; no chips, cracks or restorations. Minor kiln and
shelf traces to the foot only.
Dimensions and weight:
Height 35 cm; width 17 cm; depth 18 cm; weight 2228 g
