Circa 1785 Provence Lady's body entirely quilted with yellow silk taffeta and Rouenneries dating from the end of the Louis XVI period. Semi-rigid body with linen yoke to position a stomach piece on the front, and six whalebones for support. The back is in Siamese linen and cotton with fine tricolor stripes, Rouennerie type fashionable in the run-up to the French Revolution. Lace-up closure in the back with original eyelets. Small crenellated basque with yellow bourette piping with reminder at the armholes. Lining in Rouenneries patchwork, indigo striped reused canvas. Note tiny halos under the arms and some micro repairs. Clean, unstained and stable, this rare piece of Provençal heritage is in very good condition. Dimensions: Equivalent to a 12-year-old girl's size today.
