⸻ Large Solid Silver Dressing Mirror – Delheid, Brussels, Circa 1880
Large solid silver dressing mirror – Delheid, Brussels, circa 1880 Superb large dressing mirror, made of first-grade solid silver (950/1000) by the prestigious Delheid house, Brussels, circa 1880. The frame, of exceptional quality, is finely chiseled in the Rococo style, enlivened with volutes, shells and foliage of great elegance. The original beveled mirror shows some slight alterations to the mercury stain, normal for its age, without detracting from the readability or the charm of the whole. The back is adorned with an oak panel and a silver-plated bronze tripod, the preferred solution of the time to ensure solidity and stability, as silver was too soft to withstand mechanical stress alone. With its spectacular proportions (58 cm high by 43 cm wide) and its impressive weight (4.75 kg in total, including more than 1.5 kg of solid silver), this rare piece stands out as a very high-quality dressing mirror. Note the use of first-grade silver, of exceptional purity (950/1000), particularly rare in Belgium at that time. Very well preserved.
