Six-strand Italian “orange Peel” Coral Necklace With A 14-karat Gold Clasp – Circa 1920

Six-row Italian “orange peel” coral necklace with a 14-karat gold clasp – circa 1920

A beautiful Italian necklace from the 1920s, composed of six strands of “orange peel” coral beads, punctuated by small gold beads that elegantly accentuate the overall design.

The coral beads, approximately 5 mm in diameter, feature a beautiful warm and nuanced hue. The six strands are twisted here, giving the necklace a generous and particularly decorative appearance. They can also be fully unfurled and worn cascading down, offering a second, more classic way to wear the piece that highlights each of the six strands individually.

The necklace is particularly remarkable for its large, entirely handcrafted 14-karat gold clasp. It was specially designed to perfectly complement the shape of a beautiful carved coral piece featuring a floral motif, composed of several flowers and foliage rendered in relief. This substantial sculpture thus serves as a true ornamental centerpiece of the necklace.

The clasp is complemented by an additional figure-eight-shaped safety catch, ensuring the necklace stays securely in place.

With its substantial weight of 117 grams, its six rows of coral, its gold accents, and its remarkable clasp adorned with carved coral, this necklace is a beautiful example of 1920s Italian jewelry—particularly decorative and offering two different styles: twisted or cascading.
